Siena Farmer and her mom lifted the lawn mower into the back of their pickup on a Saturday in May, drove into town, and didn't get home until late afternoon. Nearly 1, kids across the United States and seven other countries have taken on the challenge, but only around 50 have completed it so far. Smith Jr. Smith personally delivers the rewards, too. He's making the 2,mile drive this weekend from Huntsville, Alabama, where he lives, to congratulate Siena on Monday. Smith founded the nonprofit Raising Men Lawn Care Service in after getting some inspiration of his own.
She says the money was nice, but she soon learned about a way she could mow lawns and help people at the same time. It's called the 50 Yard Challenge, a nationwide program that encourages kids to help their communities by mowing lawns for people who can't. Estrella says the challenge helped her learn some things are worth more than money.
