The five most common problems in baby chicks are all easily treated. Pasty butt can be caused by stress from shipping, being overheated, too cold or from something they have eaten. Extra care not to pull the droppings or down because the skin around the vent can tear. Olive oil is not recommended as it can become rancid.
I have taken several photos to share with you exactly how I do it. I clean it on an as-needed basis which usually happens every 1 to 1. I use a long handle broom, a hand brush and dust pan, a feather duster, and my gloves. So I begin with sweeping and scooping out all of the bedding on the inside of the coop. Underneath you can see the lovely linoleum flooring my husband installed for me - this makes cleanup so much easier. Once everything is removed, I use my small feather duster to dust all the wiring and the nooks and crannies. I also make sure to remove all the spiderwebs that can begin to form and make it look untidy over time.
